Note that newer versions of Chrome may have settings in slightly different locations, and is also what prompted this article.
- Start by opening Chrome and making your way to Settings via the three dots in the upper right-hand corner.
-
Next make your way to Autofill then Passwords (as of the time of this writing, the latest Chrome version has the settings broken down so continuous scroll through the settings is not possible; older versions can directly scroll down to Passwords).
- Click on the three dots across from "Saved Passwords".
Likely, you will just see "Export passwords..."; if you see "Import", you are good and can skip to step 8.
- If you don't see Import passwords, then we need to go to the following URL: chrome://flags/#password-import or chrome://flags (with the latter you'll just need to either scroll down until you find "Password import" or use Ctrl+F to search for it). If Password import is in the list, proceed to step . If it is not proceed with the next steps.
- You'll need to exit Chrome then do one of two things:
- With either a Run dialog box or a command prompt, run either "chrome.exe --enable-features=PasswordImport" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe --enable-features=PasswordImport" without the quotes.
- Create a shortcut to Google Chrome and in the target field append " --enable-features=PasswordImport". Execute the shortcut.
- Follow step 4 to get back to the flags page. Set "Password import" to "Enabled" then relaunch Chrome.
- Follow steps 1 through 3 to get back to the Passwords page and see if "Import" is now available next to "Export passwords...".
- Click on "Import" and browse out to your CSV file of passwords to import the password list.
