How to install Quickbooks Desktop Pro/Premier

The year will change the install slightly, but it is mainly the same questions, just a different look.


***If this is in a domain environment and multiple people will be using Quickbooks, you need to install Quickbooks on the server first and install the Quickbooks Server Database manager.***


  1. Run the installer which is on our Support.CD or you can easily just download from Intuit's website -- http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/Support/ProductUpdates.aspx
  2. Click Next and it will extract all of the files to a temp area
  3. Welcome to Quickbooks Desktop!  Click "Next"
  4. License Agreement - Check the "I Accept" and click "Next"
  5. License and Product Numbers - This is where you enter the license and product numbers for the version you are installing.  You will need to get this from the client.
  6. Choose your Installation Type - Choose "Custom and Network Options" and click "Next"
  7. Depending on what you are doing, choose your option.  Most likely it is "I'll be using Quickbooks Desktop on this computer." Click "Next"
  8. Check the location.  Make sure it is going to the right location.  If you are installing for an Accountant, they keep multiple versions of Quickbooks and you will need to make sure you are installing to a different folder than the older version.  Click "Next"
  9. Ready to Install - Confirm everything looks correct and then click "Install"
  10. After install, reboot.
  11. Open Quickbooks.
  12. Go to Help - Register (if available).  You will have to put in their phone number, zip code, or another form of identification to register Quickbooks
  13. Go to Help - Update.
  14. Update Quickbooks.
  15. Open the user's data file and test it.
