These printers have two printing methods (media types):

• Direct Thermal (No ribbon, has a heating element that burns directly into the label)
• Thermal Transfer (Has a separate black ribbon which is deposited onto the label)

If the user sets the media type on the printer screen, but it won't stick, it's because the driver is forcing its own setting. Go into the printer in Printers & scanners and check the Printing Defaults on Printing Preferences, Advanced Setup tab and change the Media Type to the appropriate one there. Apply the change. Go into the Printer properties and make sure it is updated there. If the next test page still resets the media type, download the newest Zebra Printer Setup Utilities and run through the setup of the printer. Printer may need to be restarted if it's still hung up and then it should accept the new setting.
